and ending on Thursday, 26 June.
Time: 1900-2100 hours
Place: Centerville Fire Station, (C-O-MM) Route 28

Seamanship (S) builds on the basics taught in the public boating course. Seamanship is
the first Advanced Grade course for new members, both power boaters and sailors.
Emphasis is placed on a higher level of boating skills, including practical marlinespike,
anchoring and rafting, navigation rules of the road, hull design and performance,
responsibilities of the skipper, basic boat care and maintenance, operating a boat
under normal and adverse conditions, what to do in various emergencies and weather
conditions, and nautical customs and common courtesy on the water.
Seamanship provides a needed introduction to the USPS Educational Program and a
strong foundation for members going on to Piloting and Advanced Piloting and
Advanced Grade courses and/or Elective courses that relate to safe boat operation and
knowledge that include Cruise Planning, Engine Maintenance, Marine Electronics, Sail,
and Weather.
Note: This course will involve an optional on-the-water activity which will be scheduled
on a weekend at the completion of the course. Highly successful in 2007, it is a much-
anticipated class event.
